Brian was born in Carmel and grew up in the Carmel Valley where he attended the original Carmelo School, a two-room school house with 56 students in 8 grades. Brian graduated from Carmel High School in 1960 and Chico State College in 1964 with a degree in Business Administration. For the next 47 years Brian ran a successful business as a painting contractor which did work mainly on the peninsula as well as completed projects in 6 other states. Since retiring Brian has concentrated on environmental conservation and currently serves on the boards of three other environmental non-profit organizations involved in California native plants and salmonids. Brian has been a supporter and has volunteered at MEarth for around 20 years.
