MEarth Gardens Presents: Harvesting Celery

Celery Harvesting How-To:

1. Wash your hands

2. Bring along a clean harvesting container

3. Grasp celery stalk at the base of the stalk, where it meets the celery bulb, with thumb on the concave inside, and fingers wrapping the outside.

4. Pull straight down in one motion, toward the soil until the stalk snaps, then twist slightly to the side to loosen it completely.

5. Gather your stalks into a neat bundle with the leaves facing down. This makes trimming easier when the celery reaches the kitchen.

Harvesting Tip: Don’t pull up or out, or you might unroot the entire plant! Celery will produce continuously under mild conditions, if stalks are harvested individually and carefully.
